The company was founded in 1918 in Osaka, Japan by Konosuke Matsushita and has grown from just 3 employees to over 335,000 people worldwide. Matsushita started producing batteries for the Canon-Ball-Shaped Lamps.

Introduces Layer-Built Dry Batteries.
Torch Factory is opened.

Introduces Air Wet Cells.
Nagoya Factory is opened.

Introduces Carbon Grounding Rods.

1940
Introduces Dry Zinc-Air Batteries.

1931
Begins production of Dry Batteries.

1927
Introduces Square Lamps, the first product to carry the National brand.

1923
Develops and introduces Canon-Ball-Shaped, Battery-Powered Lamps.
