Panasonic Energy Belgium – PECBE has been a key player in the European battery market for over thirty years. Over the course of this time, the company has created a strong position for itself in the market.
Although the name PECBE may not be very well known in the marketplace, our products are available at retail outlets all over Europe under the Panasonic brand name. In addition to our own branded products, PECBE is also a major player in the retail market. It is this combination that makes us unique and has made us into one of the top 3 manufacturers in the European market. |

Panasonic Energy Belgium (PECBE) has been manufacturing and packaging alkaline in Belgium under the Panasonic brand name and various other private retail brands for over 30 years. The company was established in 1970 as a joint-venture between Matsushita Electric Industrial and Philips Electronics. In 2001, Matsushita acquired the interest in the company held by Philips and became the sole owner of the battery factory in Tessenderlo. Matsushita is a Japanese world-player in batteries and has been operating in the Asian market since 1918. The company manufactures and markets products for audio and video machines, communication and information devices, electronic components and industrial equipment. Panasonic Energy Belgium is part of the electronic components group, which represents 20% of the total group.

1970: Production of zinc-carbon batteries begins
1983: Production of alkaline batteries begins

| PECBE occupies one of the leading positions in the European marketplace thanks to its high-quality and environmentally-friendly products, as well as the flexible and reliable service the company provides from its central location in Europe. PECBE has grown steadily over the years. Turnover at the end of 2004 reached more than 100 million EUR. Sales have doubled since 1996. The company's workforce has also increased over the same period, from approximately 370 in 1993 to in excess of 450 by the end of 2004. In this wireless and portable age of laptops, mobile phones, cameras and other electronic equipment, batteries have become an indispensable part of life. PECBE is a pioneer in the area of the technological development of high-performance quality batteries. |

Alkaline batteries: "Xtreme Power", specifically for applications that not only require high power and a long life, but also demand high levels of reliability - as is the case for portable cassette players, CD or DVD players, camcorders, electronic flashes, smoke alarms etc. These batteries are produced in a variety of sizes:

A high-performance battery, the Digital Xtreme Power, was developed in Japan at the beginning of 2004 specifically for the latest digital applications. The Digital Xtreme Power is available in AAA and AA sizes. Depending on the type of device being operated and its usage profile, up to three as many photos can be taken than with conventional alkaline batteries.

PECBE manufactures components and batteries, which are packed in Tessenderlo. The production of parts and the actual assembly of the batteries take place on automatic, hi-tech production lines that operate at very high speeds to produce the top-quality batteries. Automatic checks are built into each stage during the production process, which guarantees a high level of product reliability. In addition, each battery is given an individual electrical check before it leaves the factory.
In 1991, PECBE became the first manufacturer to develop a full range of batteries made without mercury and cadmium yet still retaining similar quality and service life. This was a world-first in environmentally-friendly batteries. Panasonic Energy Belgium has received a number of awards in recognition of this innovation.
PECBE opened a separate packaging centre in 1992. This centre consists of fully-automated production lines and a computer-controlled high-rise warehouse facility, where the batteries are stored before being packaged. The packaging department processes the batteries into a wide variety of pack types, based on customer requirements (blisters, box-packs, bulk or smaller volumes).
