About Panasonic

A better life, a better world

Panasonic is committed to creating a better life and a better world, continuously contributing to the evolution of society and to the happiness of people around the globe.

Behind the magic, inside the Takumi Mind

Every aspect of our business, from research and development to production and quality control, is guided by the Takumi way. Takumi is Japanese for master craftsman, but he or she is more than that. They’re artisans possessing an irreplaceable depth of experience that represents the sum of our knowledge in a specific area.

Takumi are also responsible for building new technological developments into processes refined over decades, so that knowledge lives and grows. Takumi Mind balances experience with innovation as we strive to create batteries that make life better.

Conveying 87 Years of Skill

“We’ve shipped 220 billion units to 130 countries from 13 global factories in our 87-year history. It’s the Takumi at every factory in every profession that support those businesses. For 87 years, we’ve passed on our predecessors’ skills, know-how, and craftsmanship. In others words, our DNA.
Today, we lead in training new Takumi. People all over the world depend on dry batteries. To keep creating advanced dry batteries, we aim for new challenges, and continue to improve by passing on skills while anticipating market trends.”

Panasonic Energy Europe, your professional battery partner

Panasonic Energy Europe is the European headquarter for consumer batteries and responsible for marketing, sales and distribution of consumer batteries for the whole of Europe. Panasonic Energy Europe is an important division of the Japanese company Panasonic Corporation, which is one of the largest and leading electronic product manufacturers in the world.

Since our foundation in 1918 Panasonic is recognized as an energetic, creative and proactive organization that consistently aims to exceed its customer’s expectations, to translate its vision into providing products and solutions based on ideas that will enrich people’s lives around the world through innovative thinking.

1,000 prototypes in a day

“Dry batteries are typically built with 10 components and 10 types of raw material compounds. As a product with a very simple structure, it’s the quality of the materials and the engineering expertise in how they are assembled that affects performance the most. For this important reason, we don’t buy materials on the open market; we develop our own, or conduct joint-development with our suppliers. This has resulted in our accumulation of technologies and “know-how”; something no other brand can easily match.”

“We now produce manganese batteries in eight of our factories around the world. Over the last 30 years, we’ve managed to eliminate toxic substances from these batteries. We eliminated mercury in 1991, cadmium in 1993, and lead in 2013. Although the process of making manganese batteries demands complicated techniques that took many years and many difficult challenges to overcome, we succeeded in making these cells safer. Panasonic is the only manufacturer to have achieved this with specified-substance-free batteries produced in eight of our factories. We believe it’s our mission to provide safe products to users throughout the world.”

Production lines that flow like water

“We designed more than 100 production lines in 13 factories to our own specification, and built some facilities from scratch. We regard facilities as measures, so our factories are our value creators. The challenge is to constantly improve our production so it flows like water. Some of the lines designed by our predecessors are still in operation 50 years on, a legacy of our forerunners. There’s still much to learn from our old facilities, while cutting-edge ideas, technologies, and systems can also give us a lot. By fusing these, we strive to create new value.”

“All over the world, people’s lives are supported by different kinds of energy. For example, when using the Internet of Things (IoT) for social infrastructure, a variety of specialized batteries for a range of applications are required. We supply over 1,000 kinds of batteries to 1,000 clients, including coin- and cylinder-type primary lithium batteries. These batteries are used in technology ranging from the automotive industry to ultra-cutting-edge applications in outer space. As battery creators, we are committed to responding to those demands.”

Committed to perfection

“Our products are tested in several dozen different types of devices to JIS/IEC standards, in addition to our own (even more rigorous) quality standards. Hundreds of thousands of products are tested in our labs each year. We use a wide variety of testing equipment, including discharge devices that enable testing in different conditions, and a storage chamber that simulates every possible environment. We identify problems and counter them with solutions before actual defects can occur. Our goal is to continue to deliver the highest quality products to our customers.”

Our Mission

“Being a leader in the consumer battery category, our team is passionate to bring as a trusted partner, expertise and superior solutions to our individual customers to achieve their specific business needs. Our ultimate reward is to put a smile on the consumer’s face as they enjoy our top performing products.”
