Power from the air
In Japan in 1985, the production of Zinc Air batteries was launched by Panasonic. In a Panasonic zinc air PR675 battery, oxygen from the environment is used to generate voltage. Air is used as an electrode, the battery itself containing an electrolyte and a porous zinc electrode that permits air to flow through. The batteries cannot be used in sealed devices where air cannot get inside because of this process. When the seal is removed, the generation of electricity starts.
Appliances
The PR675 batteries are perfect for BTE hearing aids (behind-the-ear).
Tip
An unused ZINC AIR battery has a sticker on the backside to close off the battery. The battery will not be activated until this sticker is removed. When you remove the sticker, air can flow into the battery and will activate it. Before putting the batteries in the hearing aid, you should wait at least 30 seconds in order to activate the battery. This way, the lifetime of the battery is prolonged extensively.
